11. Africa Expo Budapest featured 21 exhibitors representing 15 African countries. The Expo took place from 23-26 February 2023 as co - event of International Travel Show at HUNGEXPO Budapest Congress and Exhibition Centre, Pavilion A, booth No. 212 C.
The focus was on tourism promotion and education. Audience gathered first-hand information on popular as well as emerging new destinations in Africa from professionals at the booth of Travels to Africa Tour Operator, higlighted sponsor and biggest exhibitor of the 2023 expo. Visitors collected travel information on Algeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Namibia, Senegal and Uganda among others. Interested travellers were able to ask information, and were abe able to book travels with a special discount during the duration of the event.
Visitors could meet Hungarian NGO-s active in Africa as well as Africa inspired artists and craftmakers. The Ethiopian Airlines Africa Stage was the venue for professional cultural programmes, screenings and talks. Africa was also featured on the main stage of the Travel Show during the event, giving the audience a further opportunity to get insight to Africa.
The Expo was opened by György Hölvényi, Member of the Committee on Development in the European Parliament, Standing Rapporteur for Education, Spokesperson for the EPP Group on Development Cooperation, Goodwill Ambassador of the Hungary Helps Programme. Mr. Hölvényi addressed a keynote speech titled School bell or alarm? – Winning Africa’s future in the classroom. It was followed by a panel discussion on Africa’s challenge of today is the crisis of Europe tomorrow: education and migration in Sub- Saharan Africa.
